Tips to Keep Your Family Missions Focused
Talk about Importance of Supporting World Missions
Values are caught more than they are taught. If your children know you are passionate about something, they will catch it. Share with your children why missions is important to you and to Christians in light of the great commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Tell them your story of how people invested in you and how important it is to invest in others, too.
Become a Sponsor
Pick a Citizen Church sponsorship together at www.citzen.church/missions/give. Encourage your children to work chores or to find other means to contribute to the family's financial donations. Once a month, have a family day/night where you write letters, emails, etc., encouraging those in the ministry you support or the person who you sponsorS.
3. Pray as a Family
Incorporate prayer for missions into every day life, such as before school, as you travel in the vehicle or when you go for a walk, before meals, and before bed.
Sign up for Missions' Prayer Team at www.citizen.church/missions/pray where you will get the country's current events and updates on missionaries. Then, pray as a family over those situations and people.
Once a month, as a family, plan a missions' theme night for dinner. Let the kids decide what you will eat and how you will decorate the table, Pray for the ministry or individual you are supporting/sponsoring during the blessing for the food.
4. Place Visual Reminders in Your Home
Create a missions' vision board, and keep it in a hub location in your home. Every family member picks something to put on it, and each can add to it or change anything anytime.
Display pictures and letters in strategic locations in your home, such as bathrooms, bedrooms or living room. If your children look at your phone, or if they have a phone, set missions' pictures on your/their home screen and lock screen.
5. Serve Locally
There is no better place to start serving than at home. Citizen Church provides many opportunities for families to serve in the community. Visit www.citizen.church/advancement to learn how you can serve as a family.
Participate in Citizen Church's annual Serve Day Event. Allow your children to pick the project you sign up for as a family. Take pictures and keep an album of your memories throughout the years. Create a family tradition of serving.
6. Go on a Missions' Trip
Citizen Church provides opportunities for adults and teenagers to take missions' trips to four countries: Africa, Haiti, Mexico and Thailand. Discover which trip is right for your family at www.citizen.church/missions/go, Missions trips are life-changing events that broaden your teenagers' view of the world as they experience other cultures and are the hands and feet of God's love and care.
